título original: Went through a client’s order tracking today. Taboola shows up in far more customer journeys than last-click gives it credit for.

Quick share from the trenches. I run native campaigns for e-commerce clients in the DACH market, and today I went through one client’s order tracking tool (screenshot anonymized, obviously, so no shop names here).

What caught my eye:

in the most recent pending orders, Taboola keeps showing up as a marketing touchpoint.

Sometimes as the only recorded channel, sometimes right next to Google Ads. And further down, on a completed order, the recorded journey reads: shop touchpoint, then Taboola, then email. Three touchpoints, and native sits right in the middle of them.

Why I think this matters:

if you judge native purely on last-click conversions in GA4 or on what the ad platform dashboard reports, you would probably conclude "meh, barely converts".

That is the classic mistake.

Native traffic is cold, top and mid funnel traffic. It introduces people to the product. Search, retargeting and email then close the sale and happily collect the credit.

Two things I take from tracking data like this:

• Look at the full journey before you pause a native campaign. Assisted conversions and multi-touch views tell a very different story than last-click does.

• Native and email/search are not competing channels, they are a relay team. When Taboola shows up next to Google Ads and email inside the same order, that is the funnel working as intended, not channel cannibalization.

To be clear, I am not claiming native is a magic bullet.

It is not, and it needs volume and patience. But writing it off because it rarely wins the last click means measuring a striker by how many saves he makes in his own goal.
